The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) assists applicants in seeking patent protection internationally for their inventions, helps patent Offices with their patent granting decisions, and facilitates public access to a wealth of technical information relating to those inventions. By filing one international patent application under the PCT, applicants can simultaneously seek protection for an invention in a very large number of countries.

Prof. Guido Cavaletti and Dr. Cecilia Ceresa, who work at the Department of Surgery and Translational Medicine (DCMT) at the University of Milano Bicocca , cooperate with NanoSiliCal Devices. The partnership between the NanoSiliCal Devices and the DCMT of University Milano Bicocca is ratified in an agreement available in the section DOCUMENTS.

Prof. Guido CAVALETTI studies chemotherapy induced peripheral neurotoxicity (CIPN). He developed different in vivo and in vitro models of CIPN. Since 1990 he is supervisor for the neurological evaluation in clinical trials directed to assess chemotherapy side effects on the nervous system and the effects of neuro-protective agents. Prof. Cavaletti is involved in both pre-clinical and clinical research studies. He is co-author of over 170 manuscripts on international peer-reviewed journals and of 7 book chapters published internationally.

Dr. Cecilia CERESA (research fellow) studies in vitro and in vivo chemotherapy activity and toxicity, with a special focus on CIPN. Dr. Ceresa gained 8 years experience in molecular and cell biology fields, particularly in the study of cancer cells and neuron molecular mechanisms. She is also involved in pre-clinical in vivo CIPN animal models studies. Dr. Ceresa is co-author of 16 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals and of 2 book chapters. She also participated in many national and international conferences.

DCMT facility

At the DCMT are available a rodents animal house, histology and immunohistochemistry laboratories, a facility for neurophysiological studies, labs for molecular biology, biochemistry and cell cultures, optical and confocal microscopies, devices for real-time PCR and for rodents live imaging and a flow cytometer (FACS). DCMT research facility, moreover, includes a laser microdissection tool and an image analysis area.
